Town of Wolfenbüttel acquires climate-linked species for its ecological study and conservation efforts
Wolfenbüttel Joins the "Klima-Taler" Project: A New Approach to Climate Action and Local Economy
The city of Wolfenbüttel has recently announced its participation in the "Klima-Taler" project, a digital initiative that aims to make climate-friendly actions visible, reward them, and promote the local economy.
The "Klima-Taler" project, implemented by the Regional Association Greater Brunswick, is a local complementary-currency and incentive scheme that rewards residents for climate-friendly actions with a city-specific token (the “Klima-Taler”). This token can be spent at participating local businesses to both reduce carbon-relevant behavior and strengthen the local economy.
Residents can earn Klima-Taler through various climate-friendly actions, such as using public transit, cycling or walking instead of driving, buying local and seasonal food, or participating in city-organised events like the "Clean Wolfenbüttel" action day. The routes recorded in the Klima-Taler app are done automatically, anonymously, and data protection-compliant on German servers.
Charlotte Lakemann, the climate protection manager of the city of Wolfenbüttel, expressed her pleasure about the city's participation and invited all citizens to join the "City of Wolfenbüttel" team and compete against other municipalities in the monthly ranking. She also noted that the neighboring municipalities of Salzgitter, Braunlage, Gifhorn, and Cremlingen are already active in the Klima-Taler project.
Ralf Sygusch, director of the regional association, views this offer as a cost-effective way for municipalities to improve their CO2 balance. The Klima-Taler app is available for free in the Apple App Store and Google Play Store.
It's worth noting that the Regional Association Greater Brunswick has taken over the costs for the use of the Klima-Taler app by municipalities with the so-called regions license. This means that Wolfenbüttel and other participating municipalities can implement the project without any financial burden.
The "Klima-Taler" project is designed to reward and promote climate-friendly actions, support the local economy, and encourage climate-friendly behaviors to be fun. With the participation of more municipalities, the positive effect for the entire region will grow.
While the exact earning rules and what actions are eligible in Wolfenbüttel's specific scheme are yet to be determined, the core elements of the project remain the same: residents earn Klima-Taler for verified climate-friendly behaviors, spend them locally at participating businesses, and the scheme is run by a city, local NGO, or community group together with business associations and municipal authorities.
For more information about the "Klima-Taler" project in Wolfenbüttel, residents are encouraged to visit the city's official website or download the Klima-Taler app to start earning and spending their city-specific tokens.
The "Klima-Taler" project, now inclusive of Wolfenbüttel, is an environmental-science initiative that rewards residents for climate-friendly actions with token expenditure at local businesses. Wolfenbüttel's involvement in this technology-driven program aims to promote climate-change action while strengthening the local economy.
