Toyota Teases 2026 GR Corolla With Power Boost and Aggressive Styling
Toyota has teased significant updates for the 2026 GR Corolla, with aerodynamic enhancements and performance boosts. The car is set to debut later this year, featuring a more powerful engine and revised styling.
The power output of the 1.6-litre turbocharged three-cylinder engine is expected to stay at 224kW, but torque figures are likely to surpass 400Nm. The 2026 GR Corolla will also benefit from improved engine cooling and airflow management, thanks to reworked side gills.
The car's exterior has been given a more aggressive look, with a larger rear wing, new bonnet vents, and prominent vertical vents on the front fenders, inspired by the Porsche 911 GT3. Toyota Gazoo Racing has previewed these changes, hinting at a sharper variant that could signal the arrival of a full-blown GRMN model.
Toyota chairman Akio Toyoda, also known as Morizo, will oversee the final validation of the 2026 GR Corolla's platform. The 2025 model year update added an eight-speed automatic gearbox as an option and made front and rear limited-slip differentials standard across all grades. It remains unclear whether the aero and performance updates apply to all trims or only to a potential flagship GRMN variant.
The 2026 GR Corolla is set to arrive later this year with a bump in torque and unique tuning, reinforcing its performance edge. With its revised styling and improved engine, the car is poised to make a significant impact in the hot hatch segment.
