Triangular geometry of Anoma's A1 Optical transformed into captivating wearable art for wrists
Introducing the Limited Edition Anoma A1 Optical Watch: A Blend of Art and Watchmaking
The Anoma A1 Optical watch is set to make a bold statement in the world of watchmaking, combining the intricate craftsmanship of watchmaking with the visual disorientation of the Optical Art movement.
Powered by the Sellita SW100 automatic movement with a 38-hour power reserve, the A1 Optical watch maintains the rounded triangular case design inspired by Charlotte Perriand's 1950s furniture. But it's the unique optical dial design that truly sets this watch apart.
Drawing inspiration from Optical Art pioneers like Bridget Riley and Ferruccio Gard, the dial features an intricate pattern of 50 slightly offset triangles, each individually engraved using a dragged engraving machine. This artisanal technique creates a dynamic, mesmerizing visual effect that shifts and distorts light as the watch moves.
Each limited edition piece comes with original artwork by optical artist Adam Fuhrer, adding another layer of visual interest to the watch. The engraved dial stands out as a luxury-level execution among microbrand offerings.
The design reflects a broader trend of shaped watches gaining attention, with the Anoma A1’s softly rounded triangular case adding to the watch’s uniqueness and wearability. The first 300 pieces of the Anoma A1 Optical watch are numbered and limited, priced at £2,200 (~$2,955) and including the companion artwork.
There are 150 pieces available in each color (silver and copper), and orders for the limited edition pieces open on August 7 at 2:00 PM GMT through Anoma's website. Delivery for the limited edition pieces is expected in October.
Non-numbered versions of the A1 Optical watch will follow in regular production, though timing hasn't been specified. The watch comes with a dark gray grained Italian leather strap and a steel buckle. The watch's crown is recessed and accessible through a cutout in the caseback to maintain the clean lines of the stainless steel case.
As the wearer moves their arm, the triangular pattern on the A1 Optical watch's dial appears to pulse and flow, creating a captivating optical illusion. The A1 Optical watch by Anoma is more than just a timepiece—it's a piece of miniature wearable artwork that will surely turn heads.
This limited-edition Anoma A1 Optical watch stands out as a wearable piece of art, bridging the worlds of watchmaking and Optical Art with its unique, mesmerizing design. Drawn from the disorienting patterns of Optical Art pioneers, the engraved triangular dial creates a dynamic visual effect as it shifts and distorts light with movement. Beyond being a functional timepiece, it is a stylish gadget, a testament to technology and artistry in the realm of wearables.
