Trump commends Musk for extensive changes and cost reductions

US President Donald Trump lauded tech billionaire Elon Musk for his role as a cost-cutter in the government during a White House appearance. Trump praised Musk for driving "colossal changes," saving billions, and bringing "geniuses" to Washington for his cost-cutting committee.

Musk's initiatives, spearheaded as the leader of the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE), are estimated to have saved the government approximately $175 billion. This figure, however, is disputed by some critics who estimate the savings to be a fraction of that amount. Musk originally aimed to reduce spending by $2 trillion, but has since scaled back this target to $1 trillion.

Trump expressed confidence that Musk would remain involved in politics after his tenure as a Special Government Employee ends. Musk is limited to 130 days of service under US rules, which means he must relinquish his position by the end of May.

Musk's role as a Trump advisor has undergone a significant reduction in recent weeks. He announced that he would be focusing more on his electric car company, Tesla, starting in May.

Throughout Musk's tenure, his actions and political views have been met with controversy. Some critics accuse him of being responsible for the future deaths of millions of children in poorer countries. Musk has also been the subject of criticism for his involvement with USAID, which he likened to a "wood chipper." These activities have reportedly had a negative impact on Tesla sales, with some buyers choosing to stop purchasing the electric cars.

Musk has been a trusted ally of the Republican party, contributing more than $250 million to Trump's election campaign. During the beginning of Trump's second term, Musk was frequently seen alongside the president.

As his tenure with the DOGE comes to an end, Musk expressed hope that the initiatives will continue to strengthen over time and become a "way of life" in the government. He also announced his intention to remain available as an advisor to the president.
