Turkey's Electric Vehicle Revolution: Togg T10X and Tesla Model Y Lead the Charge

The electric vehicle (EV) market in Turkey is experiencing a significant boom, with over 100,000 electric vehicles sold in the first seven months of 2025. According to recent data, the top-selling electric vehicles in Istanbul, Turkey's largest city, are the domestic Togg T10X and the Tesla Model Y.

Total EV sales in Turkey from January to July 2025 reached around 103,310 pure electric vehicles, with electric vehicles making up about 18.1% market share of new car sales. The Togg T10X, a compact SUV, dominates sales among domestic EVs but has a smaller overall national market share compared to imports. The Togg T10X was the bestselling EV model in Turkey in the first seven months of 2025, with 19,821 units sold and a market share of 19.4%. Tesla, on the other hand, sold 17,026 Model Y units in the same period.

In July 2025 alone, EV sales in Turkey surged by 193.7% year-over-year, totaling 17,225 units sold, representing 20.5% of the passenger car market. Istanbul likely played a major role in this surge given its size and economic status. The Tesla Model Y topped the sales in July with 4,706 units, while the Togg T10X followed closely with 2,720 units.

Tax reforms in 2025 affecting EV prices have caused price increases for some models. The Togg T10X's price rose by 29% and the Tesla Model Y’s by 20%, affecting demand somewhat but still maintaining high sales volumes.

The electric vehicle market captured a 44.9 percent share of the overall auto market in Turkey during the same period, with all types of electric vehicles making up 44.9% of the Turkish auto market in January-July, accounting for a total of 256,673 units. The share of fully electric cars in the Turkish auto market increased from 7.7 percent to 17.9 percent year-on-year.

Interestingly, the share of hybrids in the Turkish auto market also increased significantly, from 14.9 percent to 26.8 percent year-on-year. In July, hybrids totaled 21,656 units, making up 25.7 percent of the total share.

The rise of EVs has led to a decline in the share of gasoline cars in the overall car sales in Turkey. The share of gasoline cars declined from 65.1 percent to 46.5 percent with the rise of EVs, while diesel cars lost 10.9 percent of their market share to a single-digit 8 percent.

Tesla’s expansion in Turkey is also evident, with six of the top 10 global spots for new Supercharger sites being in Turkey, as per Tesla's latest poll on its website. Turkey currently has 16 Supercharger stations.

In addition to the surge in EV sales, light commercial vehicle sales in Turkey climbed 5.77 percent to 143,497 units during the same period, and LPG car sales in Turkey climbed 5.2 percent during the same period.

The electric vehicle revolution in Turkey shows no signs of slowing down, with both domestic and imported brands seeing strong sales. The Togg T10X and Tesla Model Y are currently leading the charge in Istanbul, reflecting the combined impact of robust domestic demand and strong imported EV presence in Turkey's largest city.

The Togg T10X and Tesla Model Y are not only the top-selling electric vehicles in Istanbul, Turkey's largest city, but also significant contributors to the growth of the overall electric vehicle market in Turkey, where the market share of electric vehicles in new car sales reached 18.1% by July 2025. Technology advancements in electric-vehicles, such as the Tesla Supercharger network expansion in Turkey, are further fueling the popularity of these vehicles, transforming Turkey's lifestyle with a heightened emphasis on eco-friendly transportation options.
