Uber Eats Plans to Re-Launch Aerial Food Deliveries Via Drone for another Test Run in 2021

Uber Eats is set to revolutionise food delivery once again, this time with the help of drones. In a groundbreaking partnership with drone delivery provider Flytrex, the company aims to bring quick and sustainable food delivery to customers across the United States.

The move towards drone delivery is not new for Uber Eats. Previously, the company attempted aerial food deliveries twice, but both programmes fizzled out for undisclosed reasons. This new venture with Flytrex, however, promises to offer the same speed and sustainability that was promised in earlier claims.

Flytrex, one of four drone delivery providers authorised by the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) for Beyond Visual Line of Sight operations, has already made a significant impact. The company has delivered over 200,000 meals to suburban households in the past three years and is currently operating in select communities across the US, including North Carolina, Texas, and other locations.

The pilot markets for the Uber Eats drone delivery service, announced in partnership with Flytrex, will include San Diego and Raleigh later this year. However, the exact launch date and areas for the service are not yet known.

Uber, based in San Francisco, is investing money in Flytrex to help ramp up drone deliveries in the US. Through its Autonomous Mobility and Delivery division, Uber is partnering with Flytrex to bring drone delivery to the Uber Eats platform at scale for the first time.

Orders will be delivered to customers "in minutes while reducing congestion and emissions." It's worth noting that there is no price difference between deliveries brought by a robot or a courier with Uber Eats drone deliveries.

In addition to its partnership with Uber Eats, Flytrex has also cut a deal with DoorDash earlier this year. This move suggests a growing trend towards drone delivery services in the food delivery industry.

While the exact details about the investment amount and the extent of Uber's involvement in Flytrex's operations are not provided in the article, one thing is clear: Uber and Flytrex are set to change the food delivery landscape in the US with their innovative drone delivery service.
