Users in South Africa can now enjoy meals from Uber Eats while seated at live events, making for a more convenient dining experience during events.

Uber Eats, the popular food delivery service, has recently launched a new feature called 'Uber Eats Live' in select event venues across South Africa. This innovative service allows users to order food and drinks directly from their seats at live events, enhancing the entertainment experience by letting attendees enjoy meals without missing any action.

The feature was first piloted on June 13, 2025, at the SunBet Arena in Pretoria during a Basketball Africa League game. SunBet Arena, one of South Africa's premier indoor spaces, typically hosts 20 to 30 major events annually, including concerts and sports fixtures featuring global stars like Andrea Bocelli, Sting, and Robbie Williams in 2025 alone.

Uber Eats aims to broaden the availability of this service to other major South African event venues, including the Cape Town Stadium, FNB Stadium in Johannesburg, and Moses Mabhida Stadium in Durban. These venues are regularly packed with concerts, sports, and cultural festivals, representing significant opportunities for Uber Eats to embed its Live feature more deeply into the South African live event scene.

The growth of the online food delivery market in South Africa is on an upward trajectory, with an approximate annual growth rate of 9.9%. In 2024, South Africans spent about $3.3 billion on online food deliveries, a figure that is expected to nearly double to $5.99 billion by 2030. This innovative approach by Uber Eats South Africa represents a strategic move to capitalize on the growing demand for convenient food delivery during live entertainment events.

Uber Eats is committed to evolving with South Africa's entertainment landscape, bringing smart, user-centric solutions to life that enhance every kind of experience. The company's 2023 Economic Impact Report states that the platform supported over 40,000 earners and contributed R17 billion (over $930 million) to the local economy in just one year.

Services such as Uber Eats and Mr. D that aggregate restaurants and other meal options, form the fastest growing segment of this market. Uber Eats hopes the new feature will change the way South Africans enjoy live entertainment by making it easier to grab a bite without missing the action. The current status of Uber Eats Live in South Africa is that it has recently launched and is operational in selected event venues.

Looking ahead, Uber Eats is planning to host an event called Moonshot in Lagos on October 15-16, 2025, further demonstrating its commitment to revolutionizing the live entertainment experience.

The innovative Uber Eats Live feature, a strategic move to capitalize on the growing demand for convenient food delivery during live events, is planned to be expanded to major South African event venues such as the Cape Town Stadium, FNB Stadium in Johannesburg, and Moses Mabhida Stadium in Durban. This expansion aims to enhance the lifestyle experience by seamlessly integrating food-and-drink options into the entertainment scene, using technology to make it effortless for attendees to enjoy meals without missing any action.
