Verizon & GE Vernova Launch MDSTM Orbit for Utility Grid Modernization
Verizon Business and GE Vernova have collaborated to launch the GE Vernova MDSTM Orbit, an industrial wireless platform designed specifically for utility companies. This platform, now available on Google's network, aims to accelerate grid modernization efforts by providing secure, resilient, and efficient communication solutions.
GE Vernova's Mitesh Parikh emphasized the necessity for utilities to adopt resilient, intelligent, secure, and efficient communication platforms to drive their digital transformation. The MDSTM Orbit platform, powered by Google's network, delivers the performance required for SCADA, automation, and other critical applications. Verizon's Jim Kilmer echoed this sentiment, noting that utilities require reliable and flexible communications for grid evolution.
The collaboration between these two industry giants was first announced at the AWS re:Invent conference. GE Vernova Inc., a global energy company with approximately 75,000 employees across 100 countries, brings its expertise in energy technology to the table. Verizon Communications Inc., which generated revenues of $134.8 billion in 2024, provides the robust network infrastructure needed to support the platform.
