VinFast Expands Global Presence with New Plant in Tamil Nadu, India

VinFast, the Vietnamese automaker, has announced the launch of its new electric vehicle (EV) manufacturing plant in Thoothukudi City, Tamil Nadu, India. This marks the company's third operational plant and the fifth project in its global manufacturing network.

The Tamil Nadu plant, spanning 400 acres, houses multiple workshops, including a body shop, paint shop, assembly shop, quality control centre, and a logistics hub. In its initial phase, the plant will focus on assembling two premium electric SUV models: the VF 7 and VF 6.

The plant's establishment positions VinFast to offer high-quality, competitively priced EVs to Indian consumers, supporting domestic demand growth. With a starting capacity of 50,000 vehicles per year, the plant is scalable to 150,000 units annually to meet rising market demand.

The Tamil Nadu plant plays a critical strategic role in VinFast’s global expansion and its long-term commitment to the Indian EV market. It is planned to become VinFast’s largest export hub for South Asia, the Middle East, and Africa, strengthening VinFast’s regional market presence beyond India.

VinFast has partnered with RoadGrid for expanding service and charging capabilities across India. The company has also teamed up with multiple dealer groups in key cities, including RoadGrid, myTVS, and Global Assure, to build a robust digital services and after-sales support network.

In addition, VinFast has joined forces with BatX Energies to enable battery recovery and reuse, advancing circular production and sustainable development in India. This focus on sustainability reaffirms VinFast's commitment to promoting sustainable mobility and advancing a greener future in India and worldwide.

The plant's launch brings VinFast closer to its 2025 sales target of 200,000 vehicles and its long-term production goal of 1 million vehicles per year by 2030. The facility contributes significantly to local employment by creating 3,000-3,500 direct jobs and thousands more indirectly, boosting socio-economic development and reinforcing Tamil Nadu’s ambition to become an EV manufacturing hub and the “EV capital of South Asia.”

The opening of VinFast Tamil Nadu underscores the company's long-term commitment to the world’s third-largest automobile market, India. Initial orders for the plant have been secured from several countries across the mentioned regions.

With this expansion, VinFast continues to demonstrate its strategic vision to leverage India as a manufacturing and export hub, capitalize on rising regional EV demand, and cement its global expansion with a long-term sustainable presence in the Indian EV market.
