Volkswagen Logistics Names New Leader for Vehicle Operations

Volkswagen Group Logistics has announced a change in leadership. Peter Hoerndlein will succeed Oliver Bronder as managing director for vehicle logistics, effective 1 June. Bronder will move to SAIC-Volkswagen to oversee all logistics functions.

Hoerndlein brings extensive experience to his new role. He previously led procurement for MAN Truck and Bus's bus division and held leading logistics positions at BMW Group, including head of factory shipping and vehicle distribution. His appointment follows Bronder's successful tenure, during which he spoke at the 2024 Automotive Logistics & Supply Chain Europe conference about supply chain disruption enabling quicker decision-making.

VW Group Logistics plans to decarbonise its operations under Hoerndlein's leadership. This includes increasing rail capacity, investing in electric trucks and LNG ships, and exploring the use of synthetic fuels in the future. Hoerndlein aims to maintain Bronder's focus on reliability, transparency, and the strategic importance of logistics within the VW Group. Meanwhile, Bronder will face a complex challenge at SAIC-Volkswagen, which offers over 15 model families in the Chinese market and has one of the largest and most complex supply chains in China.

Peter Hoerndlein's appointment signals a continuation of VW Group Logistics' commitment to strategic logistics management. Meanwhile, Oliver Bronder's move to SAIC-Volkswagen highlights the importance of logistics in the Chinese automotive market.
