China's Electric Vehicle Market Experiences a Slight Dip in July

In a surprising turn of events, several major electric vehicle (EV) manufacturers in China have reported a decline in insurance registrations during the week of July 7-13, 2025. This drop can be attributed to a combination of factors, including a seasonal slowdown at the start of the month and the anticipation of new product launches.

Leading the pack, Nio Inc saw a significant drop in its insurance registrations in China. The company reported 4,100 registrations last week, marking a decrease of 19.77% from the previous week's 5,110. This decline was reflected in the core vehicles as well, with a 3.6% decrease, while sub-brands Onvo and Firefly experienced more pronounced declines, with Firefly registering a 57.69% drop in insurance numbers during that week.

Similar downward trends were observed for other major EV brands. For instance, Lynk & Co delivered 26,310 vehicles in June, up 7.66% year-on-year but down 4.78% from May. Tesla China, despite selling a record 71,599 vehicles in June, reported 12,270 vehicles for insurance in China last week, up 144.91% from the previous week's 5,010.

Interestingly, this decline coincided with Nio's rollout of new promotional campaigns and forthcoming model launches, such as Onvo’s second model L90 launching later in July. This temporary effect on sales figures may be due to customers awaiting new offerings.

Other brands, such as Leapmotor, bucked the trend with record-breaking deliveries. The company delivered 48,006 vehicles in June, marking the second consecutive month of record-high deliveries. Li Auto also reported an increase in insurance registrations last week, with 7,330 units, up 2.37% from the previous week's 7,160 units.

Zeekr Group and Aito also experienced a decrease in insurance registrations last week, with 3,100 and 8,610 registrations respectively. However, it's worth noting that Zeekr had a 4.02% decrease from the previous week's 3,230, while Aito saw an 8.40% decrease from the previous week's 9,400.

In the data table for China EV insurance registrations from July 7-13, BYD has the highest number of registrations, followed by our X (Twitter) profileiaomi, Zeekr, Lynk & Co, Leapmotor, and Aito. Despite the recent dip, it's clear that the Chinese EV market remains vibrant and competitive.
