XRP Futures Surpass Solana's Performance - Could a $3.28 Billion Hurdle Prevent a $3.50 Surge?
The XRP market is currently exhibiting a mix of optimism and caution, as traders grapple with a series of key factors.
Recent increases in XRP futures volume and open interest indicate growing trading activity and heightened market interest, often a precursor to larger price moves. This can suggest increased speculative interest and possibly upcoming volatility. However, the release of XRP from escrow risks adding selling pressure by expanding the circulating supply.
On 9 August, more than $3.28 billion in XRP was unlocked from escrow. The unlocked XRP was split into transaction batches of $1.64 billion, $328 million, and $1.32 billion. Interestingly, this unlocked XRP does not seem to be part of the multi-billion-dollar escrow unlock to unknown wallets that traders are cautious about.
The unlocked XRP was sent to unknown wallets, but the impact on the market has been somewhat muted so far. At press time, the scale of the escrow unlock injected some uncertainty in the market. Historically, such escrow unlock events have weighed on XRP's price, especially when demand fails to match the inflows.
In a positive development, Funding Rates for XRP turned positive. This could mean that buyers are paying shorts to keep their XRP positions open, a sign of bullish sentiment.
The market outlook for XRP appears cautiously optimistic but mixed. Market experts and analysts project a range of optimistic targets for XRP by late 2025, often citing $4 to $8 as realistic price targets depending on market conditions and adoption progress. Some bullish predictions foresee XRP reaching $6 to $8 by August 2025, implying a near doubling from current levels (~$3).
Conservative machine learning models and some analysts forecast more modest gains, around $3.12 to $4.78 by the end of 2025, reflecting risks like regulatory uncertainty and macroeconomic factors. Longer-term forecasts extend into 2026 and beyond, with some analysts predicting a continued uptrend fueled by resolved legal issues, ETF approvals, and institutional liquidity.
In addition to these factors, institutional involvement like Remittix's bounty program for XRP payments adoption suggests growing real-world use cases and institutional interest, enhancing XRP’s medium to long-term prospects. Remittix recently announced a $18.5 million bounty aimed at overhauling its payment systems.
At the time of writing, XRP emerged as the third-highest in the list of cryptos with the highest 24-hour liquidations, excluding stablecoins. XRP's Open Interest is currently higher than that of Dogecoin [DOGE], Ethereum [ETH], Solana [SOL], and Toncoin [TON].
On 10 August, the value of XRP closed at $3.1879, following a brief rally for XRP following the SEC dropping its case against Ripple Labs the previous day. Traders may prefer waiting for a clearer breakout or breakdown before committing to large positions, given the potential for volatility and selling pressure from the escrow unlock.
