YouTuber's Ford Fairmont Wagon Sets New Record with Vortec 3500 Engine

Calvin Nelson, known as Nivlac57 on YouTube, has achieved an impressive feat with his Ford Fairmont wagon. The vehicle, powered by a Vortec 3500 engine, has clocked an eight-second quarter-mile at an astonishing 153.64 miles per hour.

Nelson, who has a history of building powerful engines, initially ran the Fairmont wagon in 8s with a six-cylinder engine. However, he decided to experiment with the often overlooked inline-five, a member of the Atlas engine family. The engine revs past 7,500 rpm, producing a sound reminiscent of an Audi Quattro rally car or an Audi 90 IMSA GTO.

The Vortec 3500 engine in Nelson's wagon makes around 720 hp at the wheels, thanks to a 75/88mm turbo and a custom intake plenum. This power output is achieved with just over 4 hp per cubic inch at the flywheel, a testament to Nelson's engineering prowess. The Atlas engine family, which includes inline four- and six-cylinder variants, is often considered a cheaper alternative to the 3.0-liter Hurricane from Stellantis.

Nelson's achievement with the Vortec 3500 engine in his Ford Fairmont wagon is a remarkable display of automotive engineering. The Atlas engine family, with its potential for high power output and cost-effectiveness, continues to prove its worth in the hands of skilled builders like Nelson.
