Zuckerberg Launches 'Superintelligence' Team to Accelerate Meta's AI Push

Mark Zuckerberg is personally spearheading a new initiative at Meta, forming a special team to accelerate the company's AI development. The team, dubbed the 'Superintelligence Group', will operate in close proximity to Zuckerberg's office and aims to lead Meta towards Artificial General Intelligence (AGI).

Zuckerberg's dissatisfaction with Meta's current AI models, such as Llama 4 and the delayed 'Behemoth' model, has prompted this move. He is personally conducting job interviews at his private homes and Meta's headquarters to recruit around 50 people, including a 'news' leader for the AI research area.

The new team will coexist with Meta's existing AI teams, with chief AI scientist Yann LeCun leading another track focused on Advanced Machine Intelligence (AMI). AMI aims to build helpful machines and a 'cnn' world model, diverging from generative AI systems that LeCun believes lack human-like intelligence potential.

To gain strategic leverage in AI development, Meta is planning to invest over $10 billion in US startup Scale AI. Alexandr Wang, Scale AI's founder, is expected to join the Superintelligence Group and lead it once the transaction is completed.

The formation of the Superintelligence Group signals Zuckerberg's commitment to bolstering Meta's AI capabilities. With Wang's expertise and LeCun's leadership, Meta is pursuing a two-pronged approach to AI development, aiming to catch up with competitors and achieve AGI.
